Leura

Without a doubt, the Blue Mountains is a must visit area for visitors Sydney.  It is most well known for the Three Sisters located at Katoomba.  However, in addition to this, there are so many wonderful suburbs to check out in the neighbouring area.  One of them is Leura.

A day spent in Leura was an opportunity to discover its various stores, unique cafes as well as the beautiful waterfall in the area, Leura Cascades.

There were many cafes we could have chosen from in Leura, but we could not pass on the one which had the coolest name – Lily’s Pad.  Although the weather on the day was cold and foggy (which meant absolutely no views visible from one of the lookouts in the area – Sublime Point), Lily’s Pad cafe was a cosy gem which served some delicious food.

The boy ordered a steak sandwich with a side serving of potato salad.  I felt like something vegetarian and ordered a dish consisting of poached eggs, mushrooms, fetta, egg plant, hummus and dukkah.  I know the photo may lack excitement due to the lack of colour but wow, the dish was so delicious!  The fetta mixture in particular, together with the veggies mmm yummy.

At the Candy Store, there was a vast array of confectionery and drinks.  Things that really interested us included a wall of licorice as well as lollies which had insects in them.

Josophan’s Fine Chocolates had wonderful crunch waffle ball type chocolates (like the ones from Max Brenner!), fish shaped chocolates which had a metallic finish like scales on a fish, orange and white chocolate that looked like an egg sunny side up, and even chocolate shoes.

We also discovered the Bakehouse on Wentworth which had an exciting range of breads, pastries and pies on offer.  We decided to try their steak and gravy pie, but seriously there were so many tempting choices we had a difficult time deciding.

There are many points of interest to check out in Leura.  These included Sublime Point as well as the Leura Cascades. Each is accessible by car with parking and then a short walk to the actual attraction point.  Unfortunately, the weather of the day was rainy and very foggy, that you could not see anything at Sublime Point! (We also did try to check out the Three Sisters that day but it was the same). Thankfully, Leura cascades was still beautiful in the rain.  On a good day, I would recommend a walk from Katoomba Echo Point to Leura cascades, or the other way around.  I will definitely take more photos in the future.
